Curriculum for Something Upstairs by Avi
My first project at the Providence Preservation Society was updating the curriculum for the walking tour based on Avi’s Something Upstairs. Prior to coming on the tour, school groups will have read the book. As the group walks around, they identify the landmarks from the book and discuss the events from the book as well as what they see in front of them.
I developed activities that offer greater variety in, crossing multiple disciplines such as English Language Arts and the Visual Arts and encouraging skills such as critical thinking and working effectively in groups.
